Another JC Friday is almost here, and we're getting together with our old pals at Balance Salon to make their art opening something special. Come and enjoy the eye-popping pop art of "Johnny Pens" and the unique work of Brody Morales while our Vintage Pin-Up Model Squad sashays and shimmies around the salon! It all happens at Balance, 18 Erie Street, Jersey City (2 blocks from Grove St. PATH). THE NEW WORLD OF STYLE VINTAGE IS HERE! We may have closed our award-winning brick-and-mortar boutique, but World of Style Vintage and Your Hostess, Kathleen O'Malley, are still very much in business. And why should you care?? We recently had the pleasure of styling New York City mayoral candidate Reverend Billy. Just days after he traded in his usual white suit for our electric-blue '80s tuxedo, the pastor of the Church of Life After Shopping showed off his new look in the pages of the New York Times! You can also see video of Reverend Billy's transformation in the "Pomp-Off" episode of Groovy! At 18 Erie. "RATS!" ON THE AIR! The newest episode of Groovy! At 18 Erie, is now showing on Fridays at 8:30 pm and Saturdays at 6:30 pm on cable channel 51 in Jersey City. In this episode, everyone at Balance/World of Style turns into a rat puppet. The show is a real slice of life in Jersey City, featuring such things as JC Fridays hi-jinx, awards from the Mayor, alien abductions, twisted puppet shows, local artists, cocktail recipes, impromptu fashion shows and live bands on the sidewalk. In case you haven't heard, Your Hostess, Kathleen, has had a bit of a run-in with breast cancer and she doesn't care who knows about it. PAST EVENTS: CORPORATE REORGANIZATION SALE! World of Style Vintage 1.0 passed into history on March 7, 2009 when we closed our brick-and-mortar retail operation. However, we will maintain a "showroom" concession at 18 Erie Street, inside Balance Salon for Hair. So you can still browse fabulous fashions while your haircolor processes. The LAST HURRAH! We held a crazy '50s-themed party for the last JC Friday in World of Style Vintage's boutique closing. It was the living end! HOT ART OPENING FOR "WHO SAYS THE 20TH CENTURY IS DEAD?" This opening reception was a wild time, featuring Pin-The-Tail-On-The-Donkey, Little Debbies and the JC Fire Department along with Lina Haskel’s photographs of Neo-Rockabillies and Jon Hammer’s paintings of swell old saloons. "PAGAN WINTER WONDERLAND!" December's JC Friday saw us and Balance Salon celebrating the Winter Solstice with a pagan fashion show and an art opening for Megan Gulick's "Something Fishy" series of paintings. It was a wild weekend, all right...we debuted a new exhibit of drawings by Jersey City artist Hamlet Manzueta, had a boffo a Coney Island Sideshow fashion show on Saturday AND DJ Johnny Astronaut was spinning tunes all day Sunday! "FRACTURED FAIRY TALES!" September's JC Friday was another fabulous one...our fairytale-based fashion show was a hit, Mayor Healy and his entourage came to give us and Balance Salon an award for fabulousness, (and he bought the velvet smoking jacket), and All Mobbed Up gave us a live rockabilly show on the sidewalk! ALL of this will show up in Episode 2 of Groovy! at 18 Erie! JC PRIDE! It was super-fabulous naturally, and our Model Squad gleefully added to the festivities. Every year, Jersey City Pride just gets bigger and better! JCLGO PATIO PARTY! It was another fab Summer Social with our fun-loving friends from the Jersey City Lesbian-Gay Outreach.The Buy The Clothes Off My Back charity auction supporting the Joan Moore Children's Art Fund was a success and all were wowed by a stunning performance by Zondra Foxx!! Catch the pix and video on our MySpace! WELCOME TO THE FUNHOUSE! Another spectacular JC Fridays fashion show and art opening here at World of Style/Balance Salon! You can see bits of our splendid circus fashion show on YouTube...psychedelic clowns, exotic dancers, acrobats, the Bearded Lady and of course the Foot Slave! Oh, the fun we had. VINTAGE PAJAMA PARTY! We sported the ultimate in "business casual" one Saturday, working in our jammies! WORK-IN-YOUR-UNDIES DAY! One random Saturday found us celebrating the engineering marvels of vintage lingerie by wearing these instruments of lifting and shaping as we worked. Our MySpace slideshow reveals all! "SCARY PUPPETS:" A MUSICAL FASHION SHOW! We and our roommates at Balance Salon staged a way-out fashion show of living vintage puppets.
